Development of sexual dimorphism in the Drosophila testis
The creation of sexual dimorphism in the gonads is essential for producing the male and female gametes required for sexual reproduction. Sexual development of the gonads involves both somatic cells and germ cells, which often undergo sex determination by different mechanisms. While many sex-specific characteristics evolve rapidly and are very different between animal species, gonad function and...
Sexual dimorphism of gonadal development.
Sexual dimorphism is a term describing morphological differences between the sexes, but is often extended to include all differences observed between females and males. Sex differentiation in vertebrates is by definition sexually dimorphic and starts at the level of the sex chromosomes. In this review the sexual dimorphism of gonadal differentiation is discussed, with a focus on human developme...

Sexual dimorphism in the Drosophila melanogaster (Diptera: Drosophilidae) metabolome increases throughout development
The expression of sexually dimorphic phenotypes from a shared genome between males and females is a longstanding puzzle in evolutionary biology. Increasingly, research has made use of transcriptomic technology to examine the molecular basis of sexual dimorphism through gene expression studies, but even this level of detail misses the metabolic processes that ultimately link gene expression with...
